Mayor Gavin Newsom

Welcome to SFProspector

SF Prospector is a free on-line tool aimed at businesses looking to open or expand their operations in San Francisco and members of the general public interested in obtaining demographic and economic data. With SF Prospector, you can:

Create Demographic and Economic Reports
You can create site-specific demographic and economic reports for any geographic area in the City through SF Prospector. Just select the type of report you wish to create and the distance from the location you want the analysis to include. The following reports are available: 1) Demographic; 2) Consumer Expenditure; 3) Business & Workforce; and 4) Business Mix and Inventory. Census data and City data on SF Prospector are updated annually.

Search for Property Listings in Select Neighborhoods
The Mayor's Office, through the Neighborhood Marketpace Initiative, in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), has targeted emerging neighborhood commercial districts for an infusion of economic development and physical improvement resources. Targeted areas include:

  1. Leland/Bayshore in Visitation Valley (Bayshore to Cora on Leland; Sunnydale to Arleta on Bayshore)
  2. Mission Street in the Excelsior (Silver to Geneva)
  3. San Bruno Avenue in the Portola (Silver to Mansell)
  4. Ocean Avenue in the Oceanview-Merced-Ingleside area (OMI) (Phelan to Manor)
  5. Southern and middle portion of Polk Street (Turk to Sacramento)
  6. Southern and middle portion of Divisadero Street (Haight to Eddy)
  7. Third Street in the Bayview (Evans to Williams)
  8. Sixth Street in SOMA - This commercial district is not formally part of NMI but is targeted by the San Francisco Redevelopment Area through a partnership with Urban Solutions.

Listings for retail space for lease or for sale are placed on SF Prospector regularly by staff of commercial corridor programs or technical assistance providers. Property owners or brokers interested in listing available retail properties in NMI neighborhoods should contact Amy Cohen in the Mayor's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, 415-554-6649 or by e-mail amy.b.cohen@sfgov.org.
